times-of-desperate-conversation:

Rant time:

This just disappoints me more than anything else. I just think it’s really pathetic that in order for certain people to feel better about themselves they have to turn to publicly insulting a bunch of twenty year olds about their music. I think the only reason people do these things is so they can feel superior and gain popularity, which is disgusting to me. Especially when the one behind the cruel words is someone who was, and still is, very popular in the business. What if the band or artist you’re degrading happens to love your music or look up to you as a role model? How would it make you feel if your hero said that you didn’t put in any effort to your career and that everything you sang was meaningless? You would be absolutely devastated. And just because some popular lyrics may not meet your standards, that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable to not only belittle the people who wrote them, but also the fans who listen to them. To some people this band means absolutely everything. I’ll be the first to admit that One Direction’s songs definitely do not contain the most deep and meaningful lyrics I’ve ever listened to. But you know what? That’s okay. I don’t think every band on the planet is supposed to have miles and miles of depth and rattle you to your core with the intensity and meaning behind the words they sing. I think some bands are just supposed to be enjoyable and to make you happy; to be an escape from the harsh reality we live in. It’s a nice change every once in a while because the light attitudes the boys always have and the catchy and upbeat songs just kind of make you smile. Sometimes the lyrics are silly, but also, sometimes they’re extremely relatable. One Direction has quite the variety, if you ask me, and I just don’t think it’s fair to judge them completely and write them off as shallow so quickly when the only songs you’ve probably heard are “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Best Song Ever.” One Direction is a group of five very talented boys and they deserve all the recognition and attention they’re receiving. I think that as long as they’re making their fans happy and making their music enjoyable, they’re doing their job. And you know what? As long as that’s the case, I’m damn proud to be one of their “musically illiterate” fans because at least I can say that the music I listen to helps me keep a light and positive outlook on life. I just hope that as time goes on people can learn to keep their rude and unnecessary comments to themselves.
